The Challenge:

Leadership within this UK utilities organization was demanding. The business faced sustained operational and financial pressure while undergoing significant transformation. Leaders were expected to raise performance and demonstrate resilience within a sector experiencing intense public scrutiny.

At the same time, leaders reported feeling constrained in their ability to make positive change. Many lacked confidence and clarity around how to lead transformation effectively, both from a personal perspective and through a deeper understanding of the business

Diverse team collaborating around a table and reviewing materials during a session focused on building confident change leaders.
The Confidence Gap in Change Leadership. And How We Closed It.

Our Solution:

Activate was designed as a bespoke leadership journey combining residential learning with embedded workplace application. Delivered over nine months, the programme developed leadership capability progressively through theory, reflection, discussion and experiential learning.

Participants worked in mixed teams to design and deliver real-world change projects, applying learning directly to business and community challenges. These projects ran throughout the programme, reinforcing ownership, accountability and practical impact.

The programme included inter-modular coaching, business payback projects and before-and-after 360 feedback reports to support sustained behavioural change and provide objective measures of impact.

Module 1: Leading People

Participants explored leadership as role modelling, focusing on engagement, trust and performance during uncertainty.

Module 2: Leading Self

This module strengthened personal leadership foundations, including confidence, resilience and clarity under pressure.

Module 3: Leading Business

A bespoke business simulation developed commercial awareness and strategic thinking aligned to the organisation’s operating model.

Module 4: Leading Change

The final module consolidated learning through change leadership tools and the delivery of team-led change projects.

Impact:

The programme delivered clear behavioural and confidence shifts for leaders navigating complex change. Objective 360 feedback data demonstrated measurable improvement in leadership strengths and a reduction in development needs, providing strong evidence of behavioural return on investment.
