The Challenge:

Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), a leader in the Gulf’s oil and gas sector, needed to align contractor employees with its safety-critical values and expectations.

With 30,000 workers spread across remote and high-risk locations, PDO required a structured, data-driven approach that could:

  • Assess workplace safety, well-being, and engagement across its contractor network.
  • Gather feedback inclusively, overcoming language and literacy barriers.
  • Present insights in accessible, actionable formats to drive real change.

PRISM: Transforming Worker Safety and Well-being

Our Solution:

Inspirational Group co-developed PRISM, a comprehensive solution combining in-depth data gathering, innovative technology, expert analysis, and dedicated coaching

Phase 1: Solution Design & Engagement

Pilot information gathering followed by close collaboration with PDO and contractor leaders to shape the data framework and ensure buy-in.

Phase 2: Data Gathering

On-site surveys with groups of 200 workers using handheld clicker devices. This enabled inclusive, anonymous, real-time responses across 61 research statements.

Phase 3: Report Compilation

Each contractor CEO/MD and Head of HR received customised reports with benchmark analysis, root cause insights, and targeted recommendations. PDO received an overall sector-wide report with industry benchmarks.

Phase 4: Debrief & Coaching

Coaching sessions and annual forums supported leaders with practical tools, shared best practice, and drove lasting improvements in worker safety and well-being.

PRISM set a new industry benchmark for worker safety and well-being in Oman’s oil and gas sector. By combining rigorous data collection with leadership accountability, the initiative created safer working environments, enhanced welfare, and built long-term cultural change across 200 contractor companies.

Key Results:

  • Safer working environments with reduced incidents.
  • Improved physical and mental health through targeted welfare initiatives.
  • Industry-wide engagement, with 200 companies committing to action plans.
  • Reduced industrial action, reintegrating 92% of strike leaders into their organisations.
  • Stronger leadership accountability, with CEOs and HR leaders actively driving cultural change.
“An industry first and a great opportunity to learn and make a difference. Key to driving improvements in the socio-work-ethical environment in our contractor community, PRISM successfully assessed gaps, opportunities and best practice in support of change management and a high-performance environment.”
Raoul Restucci, Managing Director, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO)
