Education:

BSc Environmental Science, University of Bristol; Commissioned from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst

Jake is a leadership and performance specialist who brings together military experience, expedition leadership and organisational development to help people lead with clarity, confidence and courage. As CEO of Inspirational Development, he is driven by a belief that leadership should be practical, human and genuinely life changing.

Jake joined Inspirational Group in 2010 and has grown through a wide range of roles across consulting, client leadership and organisational development before becoming CEO of Inspirational Development. His work is shaped by a belief that leadership is not about titles or theory, but about behaviour, decision making and execution, especially when the pressure is on.

Alongside his IG career, Jake has served for more than 22 years in the British Army Reserve and currently commands B Squadron, Royal Wessex Yeomanry, the UK’s only Armoured Reserve Regiment. He completed an operational tour of Afghanistan in 2012, an experience that continues to influence his approach to leadership, accountability and resilience.

Jake is also a professional mountaineer and expedition leader. His experiences include climbing Mount Everest twice, summiting K2, becoming the youngest person in the world to complete the Seven Summits, achieving the fastest ascent of the highest mountain in each of the 48 contiguous US states, and climbing the highest mountain in 55 countries. In 2025, he was part of the top British team in the Marathon des Sables, widely regarded as one of the toughest endurance races in the world. These experiences have reinforced his understanding of performance, teamwork and decision making in complex, high risk environments.

In his work with organisations, Jake specialises in helping teams bridge the gap between strategy and delivery. He supports leaders at all levels, from early careers to executive teams, to build clarity, strengthen accountability and lead change that actually sticks. His approach blends operational realism with warmth and optimism, making development both challenging and engaging.

What Jake loves most about his work is the privilege of supporting people around the world to become more confident, authentic and effective leaders. He is especially proud of the ripple effect this has across teams, organisations and communities. While awards and recognition matter, his most meaningful moments come from hearing years later that a programme genuinely changed someone’s career or outlook.

Outside of work, Jake is rarely still. If he is not training with the Army Reserve or planning an expedition, he can usually be found with a drill, saw or chainsaw in hand, enthusiastically tackling DIY projects at home or in the garden. He also has a lesser known brush with show business, having briefly worked as a child actor and very nearly auditioned for Oliver! in the West End.

His favourite quote reflects his attitude to growth and resilience:

“You win or you learn. As long as you are still standing, there is no such thing as failure, you have just learnt how not to do it next time.”

Jake values IG for its people, its global reach and the sheer variety of work. He believes the depth and diversity of the associate community is what truly sets IG apart, allowing the organisation to deliver high quality development anywhere in the world. One of his proudest recent moments has been seeing a programme he has led over 18 months shortlisted for four Learning Excellence Awards, a testament to the collective effort of the whole team.
