Lance’s career began in the infantry, where eleven years of service shaped a deep understanding of leadership in environments where clarity and courage genuinely matter. He commanded soldiers on operations, instructed Mozambican civil war veterans overseas and later spent two years on the directing staff at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (including being the instructor for the current King of Qatar!). These experiences taught him how people learn, how leaders grow and what it takes to build trust in the moments that count.
He went on to serve as an equerry to a senior member of the Royal Family, an experience that sharpened his sense of diplomacy, discretion and presence. Since then, Lance has dedicated his career to helping leaders in all sectors become more capable, more connected and more human in how they show up.
Lance first joined IG in 2007 and has played a significant role in shaping its growth and reputation. From leading major client programmes to heading the UK business, he has built long-standing partnerships and delivered award-winning work. His programmes have reached thousands of leaders across sectors, including large-scale transformations within Deutsche Bank and Kier Construction, and high-impact engagements across the Middle East through long-nurtured relationships and trust built over years.
Today, as a Senior Consultant, Lance combines design expertise, commercial acumen and lively facilitation to create learning experiences that stick. He is known for his humour, grounded-ness and ability to help people find clarity in challenging situations. He loves seeing people surprise themselves, whether through a breakthrough in confidence, a shift in mindset or a change in how they lead others.
Outside of work, Lance brings the same enthusiasm to life. A former reality TV contestant (yes, really), and a semi-pro musician (James Blunt was a fellow band member whilst at Sandhurst!), he fronts a rock band that has played to festival crowds of thousands. He grew up around the world as the son of a soldier, now lives in Oxfordshire and is kept on his toes by two young boys and a grown-up daughter. Sport has always been part of his life too: he played nine sports at representative level at Sheffield University and played cricket and tennis for the Army.
When asked what inspires him, Lance credits his father, a Major-General admired for his charisma, storytelling and steel when it mattered. It’s clear those qualities live on in Lance’s own style of leadership: warm, engaging and anchored in integrity.
His favourite quote sums him up perfectly:
Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get.
— Dale Carnegie
