Change Leadership Fundamentals

An essential programme for emergent leaders. Build the insight and practical tools to understand change dynamics, manage resistance and guide stakeholders through transition with confidence.

Change Leadership Fundamentals

At a glance

Learning objectives:

  • Understand how individuals, teams and organizations move through change.
  • Recognise different levels of resistance and what drives them.
  • Apply a structured framework to manage transitions effectively.
  • Support stakeholders by balancing process with a people-centred approach.
  • Build the confidence to lead real conversations about change.

Who’s it for?

  • New or early-career leaders stepping into change-related responsibilities for the first time.
  • Team leaders, supervisors and project managers navigating organizational transformation.
  • Emerging talent identified for future leadership who need a strong foundation in leading change.

Emergent leaders are often the first point of contact when change lands in a team. Without the right tools, they absorb uncertainty rather than manage it. Investing early in their change capability reduces performance risk, strengthens execution and builds the resilience that organizations depend on during transformation.

Change Leadership Fundamentals

Programme Overview

Change Leadership Fundamentals equips new and aspiring leaders with the insight, tools and practical frameworks to understand change dynamics and guide people through transition. Through an interactive simulation and applied practice, participants experience the realities of change first-hand. They learn to recognise resistance, balance the human and operational dimensions of change, and lead with clarity when conditions are uncertain.

Simulation-Based Learning

Participants experience change dynamics through an interactive simulation built around real change principles. Learning is experiential, not theoretical, enabling leaders to test their instincts in a safe environment before applying them in practice.

Grounded in Behavioural Science

The programme draws on established theory including motivation science, social identity dynamics and cognitive bias, all applied in practical contexts that emergent leaders recognise from their day-to-day work.

People and Process in Balance

Effective change leadership requires attention to both structure and the human experience of transition. The programme builds capability in both, giving leaders a practical framework that holds people and process together.

Experience Change In Action

As part of the Change Leadership Fundamentals programme, participants experience the dynamics of change through ActeeChange, an interactive simulation available both online and in person. The game-based environment encourages leaders to explore resistance, test strategies, and practise guiding their teams through transformation in a safe and engaging way.

01

Session One: Understanding Change (1 day F2F)

Explore how individuals and organizations respond to change through an interactive simulation and case study application. Build a practical understanding of change dynamics, the human experience of transition and the frameworks that structure an effective response.

02

Session Two: Managing Resistance (4 hours VCT)

Apply practical tools to map stakeholder motivations and manage resistance with structure and empathy. Practise the conversations that matter most when change creates uncertainty in a team.

03

Application: Put It into Practice

Apply empathy maps and change tools to a live workplace challenge. Consolidate learning by using the frameworks from the programme in real interactions with stakeholders.

    FAQs

It is designed for new and early-career leaders, typically those stepping into management or project leadership for the first time and encountering change-related responsibilities. It is also well suited to emerging talent programmes where building a strong leadership foundation is a priority.

No. The programme is designed for those at the start of their change leadership development. No prior knowledge or experience of managing change is required. The simulation and applied exercises are structured to meet participants where they are.

The simulation is an experiential learning tool built around real change principles. Participants work through a series of scenarios that reflect the dynamics of organizational change: resistance, competing priorities, stakeholder reactions and the tension between process and people. It is used in session one to make the learning immediately tangible and relevant.

Yes. The simulation can be configured to reflect your organization’s own change principles, language and context. This is one of the most impactful ways to increase relevance and engagement, particularly in large-scale deployments. Contact us to discuss what is possible.

It is the entry point to the suite, sitting at the Essential level for emergent leaders. Participants who complete this programme are well positioned to progress to Driving Change with Influence and Tools, and in time to the Advanced and Mastery-level programmes as their responsibilities grow.
