From Strategy to Execution

A two-day annual strategy and OKR planning workshop that turns leadership intent into measurable priorities, clear ownership and a governance rhythm that holds all year.

From Strategy to Execution

At a glance

Learning objectives:

  • Review the past year’s objectives and KPIs to identify what drove impact and where execution stalled.
  • Strengthen trust and working norms within the leadership team, so priorities can be debated candidly.
  • Agree the three to five objectives that will define the organization’s agenda for the year ahead.
  • Translate strategy into measurable OKRs and KPIs, each with a named owner.
  • Map how goals cascade to every team and set a weekly and quarterly review rhythm.

Who’s it for?

  • Senior executives and leadership teams responsible for setting annual strategy and priorities.
  • Strategy owners who need a structured process to convert intent into measurable objectives.
  • Organizations where strategic direction is evolving and new priorities need to be agreed before execution begins.
  • Organizations where cross-functional alignment is essential and success depends on teams pulling in the same direction.

Most leadership teams know where they want to go. The harder part is getting every team moving in the same direction and keeping them there all year. Strategic intent is often clear at the top, but alignment and execution vary across teams. Priorities multiply, KPIs lose meaning and focus fades as the year progresses. The result is a gap between strategy and execution, and a commercial cost in wasted effort, slower delivery and missed targets.

From Strategy to Execution

Programme Overview

From Strategy to Execution brings senior leaders together to review the past year, sharpen strategic priorities and translate them into measurable OKRs and KPIs for the year ahead. Over two focused days, the leadership team moves through a structured sequence: reflect, align, decide and translate. Each stage builds on the last, so the priorities agreed are grounded in evidence and the team behind them is aligned. Leaders leave with a shared understanding of what matters, why it matters and how it will be measured.

Reflect and Align

Day one strengthens the leadership team itself and reviews past performance. Leaders clarify working styles, build the trust needed for candid decisions and examine the previous year’s objectives and KPIs to surface lessons, bottlenecks and the drivers of impact.

Decide and Translate

Day two turns insight into commitments. Leaders debate and agree the three to five objectives that will define the year ahead, then translate them into measurable OKRs and KPIs, map how goals cascade across the organization and set the review rhythm.

Govern and Sustain

Every objective leaves with a named owner, measurable key results and a weekly and quarterly check-in rhythm, so the plan continues to guide performance long after the workshop ends.

How Goals Cascade Through the Year

A strategy only improves performance if every team can see how its work connects to it. The workshop builds a clear line from strategic intent to day-to-day execution:

  • Strategy: vision, mission and strategic intent
  • Three to five company objectives: what matters most, and why
  • OKRs and KPIs: how success will be measured
  • Team and function goals: every team connected to the strategy
  • Weekly and quarterly check-ins: the rhythm that sustains progress
Diagram showing how strategy cascades through the year in five stages: strategy, setting vision, mission and strategic intent; three to five company objectives, defining what matters most and why; OKRs and KPIs, showing how success will be measured; team and function goals, connecting every team to the strategy; and weekly and quarterly check-ins, the rhythm that sustains progress.

The learning journey

Day One: Leadership Alignment and Team Dynamics

Leaders strengthen communication, clarify working styles and build the trust needed for candid debate. Alignment comes before goal-setting, so that commitments made later are shared rather than imposed.

01

Day One: Strategic Performance Review

The team reviews the past year’s objectives and KPIs to surface lessons, bottlenecks and what drove impact. Priorities for the year ahead are then built on evidence, not assumption.

02

Day Two: Strategy Definition and Prioritisation

Leaders debate competing priorities and agree the three to five objectives that will define the organization’s agenda for the year ahead.

03

Day Two: OKRs, KPIs, Cascading and Governance

Objectives are translated into measurable outcomes. Leaders map how goals cascade to every team, assign ownership and set the weekly and quarterly review rhythm.

04

Key Benefits

Performance risk rarely sits in the strategy itself. It sits in how consistently leaders align behind it, prioritise and hold each other to account. Entering the year with agreed priorities, clear ownership and a working governance rhythm reduces the time lost to clarifying goals and increases the proportion of effort directed at what matters.

OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) define what the organization wants to achieve and how progress will be measured over a set period. KPIs track the ongoing health of the business. The workshop uses both: OKRs to drive focus on priorities, and KPIs to monitor performance.

When priorities multiply, focus and accountability weaken. A small number of objectives makes trade-offs explicit, helps teams see what matters most and makes it easier to track progress through the year.

Ideally before the new planning year begins. Organizations that wait often spend the first quarter clarifying goals instead of executing them, and the lessons of the previous year lose value quickly unless they are translated into priorities.

The senior leadership team and the owners of strategy in the business. Having the full team in the room ensures decisions are made together and ownership is shared.

No. The workshop introduces the principles needed to write effective OKRs and KPIs, and supports teams with existing frameworks in refining them.

Facilitation is neutral and independent. The facilitator challenges assumptions, surfaces patterns across teams and keeps the group moving from discussion to commitments, allowing every leader to participate fully rather than run the process.
