Insights from our latest AI Leadership Masterclass

Yesterday, we hosted our AI Leadership Masterclass: Stop Playing with AI. Start Winning, co-created with Traversally.

More than 150 senior leaders registered for the session, with around 50 joining live, to explore how to move beyond experimentation and start seeing real results from AI.

The core message from Dr Phininder Balaghan, Founder and CTO of Traversally, was simple but powerful:

“The biggest blocker to AI success isn’t the technology. It’s the way we build it.”

Why so many organisations struggle to “win” with AI

Too many teams are still stuck in the proof-of-concept stage, testing tools, producing prototypes, and rarely turning those trials into measurable business impact.

Phininder explained that organisations that do succeed share a common trait. They know what “winning with AI” means for them.

For some it’s better decision-making.
For others it’s efficiency, innovation, or competitive edge.
The first step is defining success, then building the technical and cultural foundations to support it.

What those foundations look like

1. Technical readiness

  • Reliable, accessible data. Not perfect data, but usable data.
  • Tools and infrastructure that fit your business context, not the latest hype.
  • Governance frameworks that make experimentation safe.

2. Organisational readiness

  • A culture that allows curiosity and failure while maintaining accountability.
  • Leadership alignment, with everyone working from the same AI playbook.
  • Clear ownership for ethics, risk, and delivery.

As Phininder reminded attendees:

“AI is a way of working, not just a tool.”

From experiments to measurable ROI

The leaders who “win” with AI set clear, measurable goals before they start.
They ask, What does success look like in 30, 60, or 90 days?
Then they build towards that outcome, measuring progress at every stage.
